Marble countertops

Marble is a metamorphic limestone that has crystallized naturally over time. It is comprised primarily of calcite, dolomite or sometimes a combination of the two minerals. The colour of the veins and marbling that run throughout the marble are easily recognizable. Often used for kitchen countertops, marble is offered in a variety of colours and is found worldwide, especially in Belgium, France, Great Britain, Greece, India, Italy and Spain.

Advantages of a marble countertop

The main advantage a marble countertop is its beauty. Artists from the days of antiquity preferred this material for their sculptures of gods and goddesses. The great variety of marble available on the market makes it a very versatile choice for decoration and design use. From bright colours to softer shades, marble countertops have a lot to offer.

Marble countertop maintenance

Marble is relatively porous so countertops made form this material require careful care and maintenance. It can be easily stained by acidic products such as fruit or tomato juice, wine and coffee. In case of a spill we recommend absorbing the liquid, as soon as possible, with a cloth or absorbent paper rather than wiping it up; this will help reduce the spread of the spill. Be sure to clean the entire surface of your marble countertop with warm water and mild soap. To prevent future accidents, the use of coasters and place mats is recommended. Never place hot pots and pans directly on the marble countertop; always use a trivet or a mat.

Prevention begins the moment you become the owner of a marble countertop. This means using a sealant on a regular basis, using table mats and coasters and avoiding the use of abrasive products.
